RESO.COOL, an innovative project that was conceived, designed, financed and directed by people from the beautiful big region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue. So, it's a 100% Témiscabitibien product!
Here’s the great story behind this unifying, innovative project.
During the spring of 2017, a group of four union representatives from Unifor contacted us. As a result of a training session on the involvement of their members in their community, they had to choose a cause to invest in for a project. After the analysis of some candidates, their decision was to put their efforts in supporting the suicide prevention centres in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region for a project destined for teens. It is therefore in collaboration with Ms. Mélanie Tremblay, director of the Suicide prevention Centre of Amos that a fundraising activity in the form of a draw had been organized to benefit the cause. This project would not have been possible without the support of Mr. Pier-Luc Levasseur-Labrecque of the Centre de Camping et Propane d’Amos who didn’t hesitate for a moment to join us on this adventure. Dany, Frédéric, Jacques and Alain travelled with their spouses, families and friends, to various summer events in the region to sell each of the 2500 tickets printed for the occasion. On September 9, 2017, at the Centre de Camping et Propane d’Amos, the draw was held where a cheque for $16 500 was given to the suicide prevention organizations in the area.
Benefiting from such an amount is a unique opportunity for organizations like ours. We wanted to use it to its full potential in order to make the most what we had for the clientele they had chosen; that is young people between the ages of 11 and 15. Our concern was to offer an easy-to-use, sustainable, accessible and up to date awareness-raising tool, we quickly considered turning to technology as a means of communication with the targeted clientele.
Discussions and hopes quickly gave way to concrete steps in assessing the feasibility of the project. A local web designing firm was approached in order to get an estimate. We examined what was going on in the world of web-based suicide prevention applications at the time and we were on the lookout for new approaches using technology. Through the course of our meetings, we chose the designer, the image, the content, the values, the goal and our ideas quickly became a project. Today, more than a year after the famous draw, the project is finished and ready to use.
It is with great pride that the suicide prevention centres of Abitibi-Ouest, Amos, Malartic, Senneterre, Témiscamingue, Rouyn-Noranda and the Vallée de L'Or, as well as Besoin d’aide 24/7, present RÉSO.COOL.
